As we near the United State's celebration of Independence Day on July 4th, I'm reminded of some of the great songs that were released around WWI, in the effort to stir up that Patriotic pride (and used as propaganda to encourage citizens to support the war effort). So for the two or so of you reading, I'm going to post some of my faves (which I know you can get in store *hint hint* to the rest of you slackers). ;)
First off, let's start with one of the best uses of wordplay. Recorded by the Peerless Quartet, "We Don't Want the Bacon (What We Want is a Piece of the Rhine)". Recorded in 1918 for both Columbia (A2620) and Victor (18505).
